My beloved wife of 42 yrs passed away on 2-28-12 after battling pancreatic cancer over 8 months. She gave tirelessly to those in need all of her life and never asked for anything for herself. She can finally have the rest she has earned. I, her 7 children, 4 grandchildren and all those whose lives she touched feel a gaping hole in our hearts...

Dave,
You have my deepest sympathy. My deepest regards to your family, and the many others whose lives must be much less without her presence.

All my best

Thank you all for those comforting words.

Memorial donations in her name, Evelyn Marain, may be made either to The Lustgarten Foundation or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, which can be found online.

She was our conscience. Whenever we faced a moral dilemma, we knew we only had to ask ourselves, "What would mom do?"

Evelyn always knew the right thing to say and do -- it came naturally to her.

She dedicated her life to helping others. Like a great teacher, she made a difference...

Dave, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know your family will always continue to ask, "What would mom do?" and she'll continue to guide.

Wow. I came here to ask a Math question because I found your site on Google and saw this. You add such personality and character to your Blog and seem like such a nice person. My condolences on your loss and it seems like you have a wonderful family who shared a lot of good times together. Take care.

Again, I deeply appreciate your comforting words. I feel lost at times, particularly lying in bed or feeling the need to share something with her. I still feel her presence and talk to her as if she's in the room. It's also hard on the grandchildren and my youngest. Yes. I know, keep busy and time will help.

I'm so sorry to learn of this. I am only just reading of it now--was checking your site before recommending it to a colleague. Our very deepest condolences to you and your family, Dave. --Heather Taylor and everyone at Connect magazine.
